Livingston Parish Public Schools (LPPS) provides related and specialized services to eligible students based on their individual educational needs and the requirements outlined in Bulletin 1508, the Louisiana Pupil Appraisal Handbook.
Behavioral Services:
Supporting Positive Behavior and Student Success
Livingston Parish Public Schools (LPPS) provides behavioral services through a range of programs and supports based on a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) approach to behavior intervention.
These services are designed to help students develop the behavioral, social, and emotional skills needed to participate successfully in school and access their educational program.
Behavior Intervention Services
For students with more significant behavioral concerns, LPPS has a team of specially trained Behavior Specialists, including Certified School Psychologists and School Social Workers. The team provides a wide range of services to support students, families, and school staff.
Services may include:
- Teacher consultation and support
- Professional development and training for teachers
- Development and implementation of behavior interventions
- Counseling
- Social skills instruction, training, and practice
- Problem-focused therapy
- Crisis assessment and intervention
- Behavioral strategies and other individualized supports
Who Can Receive Services?
Behavior intervention services are provided based on established eligibility criteria. Services may be available to both general education and special education students across all grade levels, from pre-K through high school, who meet the applicable criteria.
Services are designed to address each student's individual behavioral needs and may be provided through a variety of settings and interventions.

Parents who have concerns about their child's behavior should first contact their child's teacher to discuss available supports and next steps.

Motor Services:
Adapted Physical Education
Supporting Safe and Successful Participation
Adapted Physical Education (AdPE) services are provided to students who may not be able to safely or successfully participate in the vigorous activities of the general physical education program on a full-time basis.
Students qualify for AdPE services through the evaluation process outlined in Bulletin 1508, the Pupil Appraisal Handbook.
Once a student is determined eligible, AdPE services are provided at the student's school for the amount of time and frequency outlined in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Occupational Therapy
Supporting Participation and Independence
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a related service that must be necessary for a student with a disability to benefit from their special education program.
Eligibility for OT services is determined through the evaluation process outlined in Bulletin 1508, the Pupil Appraisal Handbook.
In the school setting, Occupational Therapists primarily support students in the areas of:
- Fine motor skills
- Self-care skills
- Sensory processing
Occupational Therapists may also collaborate with Assistive Technology (AT) staff to help secure adaptive equipment and provide education and training to students on the appropriate use of equipment needed to benefit from their special education program.
Physical Therapy
Supporting Mobility and Physical Development
Physical Therapy (PT) is a related service that must be necessary to assist a student with a disability in benefiting from their special education program.
Eligibility for PT services is determined through the evaluation process outlined in Bulletin 1508, the Pupil Appraisal Handbook.
In the school setting, Physical Therapists primarily support students in the areas of:
- Gross motor skills
- Self-help skills
- Independent mobility skills
- Strength, endurance, and coordination
Physical Therapists may also work with students and educational staff in the use of adaptive equipment to help students develop and maintain the physical skills necessary to benefit from their special education program.
Individualized Services
Adapted Physical Education, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy services are provided based on each student's individual needs and eligibility. When appropriate, services and supports are documented in the student's IEP to help ensure the student can access and benefit from their educational program.

Communication and Language Services:
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide speech and language services to students ages 3 through 21 who meet the eligibility criteria for a Speech or Language Impairment, as outlined in the Louisiana Pupil Appraisal Handbook, Bulletin 1508.
The goal of Speech Therapy Services is to help students develop the communication skills needed to participate successfully in the educational environment and access their educational program.
Services Provided
LPPS Speech-Language Pathologists provide a variety of services, including:
- Communication and hearing screenings
- Speech and/or language interventions
- Comprehensive communication evaluations
- Individualized Education Program (IEP) therapy services
- Related services and direct services based on individual student needs
- Consultation and support for educational staff and families
Areas of Communication
Speech Therapy Services address four major areas of communication:
- Articulation – difficulties producing speech sounds clearly and accurately
- Language – difficulties understanding or using spoken, written, or other forms of language
- Voice – difficulties with the quality, pitch, loudness, or other characteristics of the voice
- Fluency – difficulties with the smoothness, rate, or flow of speech
Where Services Are Provided
LPPS Speech-Language Pathologists provide related and direct services to eligible students enrolled in:
- LPPS public school campuses
- Accredited private schools within the LPPS jurisdiction
- Off-campus settings through itinerant services, when appropriate

Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing Services:
Supporting Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
Livingston Parish Public Schools (LPPS) provides educational services and support for students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing. Services are designed to meet the individual communication, educational, and instructional needs of each student.
Services Provided
Services are offered through both itinerant services and classroom-based programs, depending on the individual needs of the student and the services identified through the student's educational planning process.
Educational Interpreters are also available for students whose Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) indicate that interpreter services are required to support access to instruction and participation in the educational environment.
Individualized Support
Services and supports are determined based on each student's individual needs and the recommendations documented in their IEP. The goal is to provide students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing with appropriate access to instruction and meaningful participation in their educational program.

Visually Impaired Services:
Supporting Students with Visual Impairments
Livingston Parish Public Schools (LPPS) provides educational services and support for students who are visually impaired. Services are designed to meet each student's individual educational and access needs.
Services Provided
Services are available through both itinerant and classroom-based programs, depending on the individual needs of the student and the services identified through the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Students whose IEPs indicate a need for Orientation and Mobility (O&M) services may receive instruction and support from an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. These services help students develop the skills necessary to navigate and move safely and independently within their school and educational environments.
Accessible Educational Materials
LPPS provides accessible educational materials to students who require them, including:
- Braille books
- Large-print books
These materials are provided based on the student's individual needs and educational requirements.
Individualized Support
Services and supports for students with visual impairments are determined based on individual needs and the recommendations documented in the student's IEP. The goal is to provide students with appropriate access to instruction, educational materials, and the school environment.
