How to Become a Substitute Special Education Bus Attendant

To become a Substitute Special Education (SPED) Bus Attendant, please follow the required application, background check, and training steps outlined below.

Application & Certification Requirements

    Submit Online Application

    All applicants must complete the official Substitute Application packet online before moving forward in the hiring process.

    Schedule Fingerprinting & Document Submission

    Schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted, submit required documentation, and pay the required processing fee. Appointments take a minimum of thirty (30) minutes.

    • Processing Fee: $55.00 (required at appointment)
    • Only fully completed applications will be processed.

    Complete Mandatory LPPS Training Course

    Attend and complete the mandatory training course provided by the LPPS Transportation Department. The course is offered twice per year. You must submit your online substitute application and complete fingerprinting prior to attending.

Career Pathway to Full-Time Positions

Once all three requirements above are satisfied, you will be approved and placed on the official Approved Substitute Attendant List provided to full-time bus attendants. When permanent full-time route positions open, they are filled directly from this approved substitute list.

Substitute SPED Bus Attendant Training Course

The Substitute SPED Bus Attendant Training Course is a specialized instructional class provided by the LPPS Transportation Department for candidates interested in supporting special needs transportation.
